You may remember my client, Kaitlin. I photographed her bridal shower, baby shower and multiple family photo shoots for her and her family. She always plans the most gorgeous events and it was fun to do something a little different and more private for her son, Chase’s first birthday photo shoot.

Large Round One Balloon

When you are planning a first birthday photoshoot, it’s always good to have a few props! I like things to be pretty natural and not too over the top. But this big round balloon with the word one on it was perfect! Kaitlin decided to set up a few different scenes for the shoot. First, the grassy, park like setting of her backyard. Next, we moved to a more studio like set up that we created on her back patio. I brought a seamless white backdrop and Kaitlin brought in stylist, Angi, of Angi & Co and balloon wizard Elissa, of Indie Bee Balloons to create a little magic and decorate the blank white canvas.

Kaitlin also brought along this small wooden stool. I think it was supposed to be the stand for the cake, but I always loving using the cake stand as a prop for the baby, since one year old’s can’t really stand or walk very well yet. It allows them to lean on it and makes for the best shot.

Planning a chic photoshoot for a boy can be tricky! Here are my tips- keep it simple. Less is more. Choose a color scheme. I love white blue and greenery for a boy. Don’t be afraid to add greens or use flowers (sparingly) for a boy. A little nature is always nice to incorporate.
